Choreographer Zaini Tahir, winner of the Best Choreographer Award at the Prague Dance Festival 2009 and TRCC Assistant Director (Artistic Development) together with students from Republic Polytechnic Replug, Wushu, Malay Cultural Group, Hip Hop, Modern Dance, Social Dance, Gamelan Naga Kencana, Beats Encore, Capoeira, Judo, Haka, Akido and drummers from ZingO Drum Festival Group.

Synopsis:

Let Reflections 2009 grand launch open your eyes to what this year’s festival has to offer! Choreographed by Zaini Tahir, winner of the Best Choreographer Award at the New Prague Dance Festival 2009, together with music arranged by RP’s Replug musician Hafidz Leong, expect a montage of performances featuring martial art fighters, hip hop, modern and traditional dancers, Replug vocalists, percussionists of Gamelan and Beats Encore, hot bods from ZingO Drum Festival Group and graffiti artistes that will satisfy both your aural and visual senses. A new exploratory journey of tango music expressed through the transition of Chinese, Indonesian, Indian contemporary, Indian Bharatyanatyam and neo-classical Ballet dance forms choreographed by Ong Siew Bee (Singapore), Serene Tan (Singapore), Zaini Tahir (Singapore), Gayatri Sriram (India) and Maud Toledano (France), and performed by dancers from NUS Dance Ensemble, Republic Polytechnic, YuYing Secondary School Alumni Dance Group, Ananth Nagaraj (India), Tanvi Bhaskar (India) and Anna Broquet (France). Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony

Synopsis:

In line with the Festival’s theme, RP Wind Symphony (First runner-up in 1st Division of the Singapore International Band Festival 2008) presents an infusion of music from different countries, cultures and period. Conducted by Resident Conductor, CPT Muhamad Yusri, the concert repertoire is inspired by the beauty in paintings, poetry, history, film and music together – interpreting the various art forms in the form of band music. Be awed by the two soloists in Autumn Soliloquy (Oboe) and Variants on an English Hymn Tune (Euphonium), and the two young student conductors as they debut in this concert, showcasing their musicality.

Synopsis:

A story based on the green movement which started in India. This non violent protest where villagers hug the trees to save them from being felled has compelled the authorities to amend the policy against felling of forests in eco-sensitive regions. Not only is the importance of environmental friendliness being conveyed in this story, it also imparts the concept of cohesiveness and the importance of building strong bonds to work and solve problems. Audience can expect a theatrical treat as this performance will showcase custom made puppets, colourful and eye catching props and sets. It is riddled with catchy and infectious songs that will guarantee to enthral audience.
