LEAVE OF ABSENCE (LOA) *Updated 5 MAY 10
Leave of Absence (LOA) is granted to students who are unable to attend classes or examinations (Understanding Tests) because of illness covered by a Medical Certificate or other reasons acceptable to RP.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
With effect from Academic Year 2010/2011 Semester 1, all LOA applications must be submitted within 3 working days
from the last day of absence. For LOA cases involving a medical certificate, the application should be made in person to the One-Stop Centre (OSC).
For all other LOA cases, the application should be made online via the LOA portal http://myrp.sg/LOA.
In addition, if the absence is for the Understanding Test 3 (UT 3) after Week 15, students must also inform RP by email to help-registrar@rp.sg within 24 hours of the first UT 3 missed, failing which they may not be allowed to take a supplementary Understanding Test 4 (UT 4).
Medical certificates must be obtained from a medical practitioner registered with the
Singapore Medical
Council or from a dental practitioner registered with
the
Singapore Dental Council.
Medical certificates issued by any other persons (e.g., Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM) practitioners) will not be accepted.
Details of the procedures for LOA application are given below.
LOA APPLICATIONS WITH MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
-
Students who are absent for one or more days with a Medical Certificate (MC) are to submit their MC at the One-Stop Centre
within 3 working days from the last day of the MC. Late submissions will not be accepted.
-
In addition, if the absence is for the Understanding Test 3 (UT 3) after Week 15, students must also inform RP by email to
help-registrar@rp.sg within 24 hours of the first UT 3 missed, failing which they may not be allowed to take a supplementary Understanding Test 4 (UT 4).
-
If the LOA with MC includes any Understanding Test (UT) missed (whether it is UT 1, UT 2 or UT 3), then the student must also submit a 'Medical Report Form For Absence From Understanding Test' to be completed by the medical
practitioner who issued the MC. Students are advised to bring the Medical Report Form with them when they first consult the medical practitioner. (For MCs issued by government Polyclinics or restructured hospitals/specialist clinics,
the requirement for a Medical Report Form is waived.)
LOA APPLICATIONS FOR OTHER REASONS
-
Students who are absent for any other valid reason are to apply for LOA online http://myrp.sg/LOA, as early as possible,
and in any case within 3 working days from the last day of the absence. Relevant supporting documents are to be uploaded. If the required documentary evidence is not uploaded, the application will be rejected.
In such cases, students may apply again with the required documents uploaded together with the application, within 3 working days from the last day of absence.
-
In addition, if the absence is for the Understanding Test 3 (UT 3) after Week 15, students must also inform RP by email to help-registrar@rp.sg within 24 hours of the first UT 3 missed, failing which they may not be allowed to take a supplementary Understanding Test 4 (UT 4).
-
Please note that submitting an application does not mean that the LOA will be approved. The outcome of the application (approval or rejection) will be made known to the student on the LOA portal.
-
Students should apply for LOA using the LOA Portal for the following situations:
- Representing Singapore or RP for recognised sports competitions and/or other selected major or international events. Each case will be considered on its merits, and approval will not be given if the student's participation is not supported by RP.
- Compassionate leave (up to three calendar days) following the death of an immediate family member. Immediate family members include the following: grandparents, parents and siblings (for students who are single); grandparents, parents, siblings, parents-in-law, spouse and children (for married students).
In other situations, LOA may not be granted since the computation of the Module Grade is based on the best 13 out of 15 grades to allow for absences for a variety of reasons. Examples of reasons for which LOA may NOT be granted include the following, amongst others:
- Going for driving test, interviews, graduation ceremony, etc
- Personal matters
COMPUTATION OF MODULE GRADE WITH LOA
UT COMPONENT OF THE MODULE GRADE
In normal circumstances where students do not have any approved LOAs, the Understanding Test (UT) component of the Module Grade will be computed taking the relative weightage for the UTs in the ratio of 1 : 1 : 2 (= UT 1: UT 2: UT 3).
For one or more LOAs involving UTs, the relative weightage for the UTs will be as shown in the table below:

DAILY GRADE COMPONENT OF THE MODULE GRADE
In normal circumstances where students do not have any approved LOA, the daily grade (DG) component of the module grade is computed based on the best 13 out of the 15 daily grades.
For one or more LOAs involving daily problems, the daily grade component of the module grade will be computed as follows:
