On 3rd of March 2007, Republic Polytechnic celebrated its annual Family Day extravaganza with the sun, the sand and the sea at Sentosa. As early as 1pm, our staff with their family and friends in tow started streaming in by the dozens, allured by the golden sands and inviting waters of Tanjong Beach.
With happy faces, they collected their goodie bags which consisted of items such as beach mats and RP umbrellas.
At 2.30pm, we had an Early Bird Draw where early birds of the day were treated to luxury gifts of hampers worth at least $200. Our Deputy Principal, Mr. Eden Liew remarked in his opening address that the statistical figures of singles in RP is higher than the national average, a trend in amusing juxtaposition to an event called “ Family Day”!
To herald the commencement of the event, Mr. Eden Liew and the directors
joined their Survivor torches in unanimous unity to launch the event. Coupled
with firing of confetti and loud cheers from the floor, the excitement in the
air culminated to a feverish pitch.
The call for directors to form their groups soon found everyone in a frenzied state as people
clamoured for their colleagues to join in the fun. After group photography, the beach telematch games began! With interesting games such as Mother Hen Lay Eggs, Fireman Hose
and more, the large grins on our staff and their family members’ faces was evidence that they
were enjoying themselves tremendously. Champion of the Games was the Blue Team – Congratulations to them for their fine sportsmanship!
Tidbits and ice-cream were distributed and little girls plaited their hair while others grooved to the music and had their arms “tattooed”.
Despite the gathering of ominous dark clouds in the horizons and the eventual heavy downpour, RP staff continued their participation in Beach Soccer, Beach Captain’s Ball, and Beach Volleyball’s competitions. The enthusiasm was contagious. With the onset of the sand castle building competition, we were treated to a galore of innovative creations although the
biggest of it all and certainly the most aesthetically pleasing belonged to the
champion of the competition - SAS.
Stage performances also gathered loud cheers, especially by the little children who were entertained by the funny antics of Alex Fu. The crowd was further entertained by the parade of gorgeous beach babes and beach hunks made up by our very own staff.
The highly anticipated lucky draw drew the most attention where attractive prizes such as MP3 Players and Takashimaya Vouchers were given out. Disappointed groans were heard when the highly sought after 1st Prize - an LG 32” LCD TV was won by Lim Xin Yi from OES. Another time perhaps, guys!
The delicious smells of BBQ seafood reinvigorated the senses of many and
dinner began with a blast with the BBQ Black Pepper Crab and Chicken Wing
drawing the most crowds. The gathering orange hues from the setting sun drew to
a close a wonderful RP Family Day. Let’s all look forward to next year! =)
