RP Archers Scores for Three Consecutive Competitions in 2007!

In the opening months of 2007, three archery competitions were held: Sembawang Archery Club Open 2007 on 13th January, Archery Association of Singapore (AAS) Outdoor Archery Championship 2007 on 27th January, and NTU Tertiary Institution Outdoor Archery Championship 2007 on 3rd February. All three competitions are annual national sporting events, which attract a good turnout from all local archery organizations and enthusiasts.

The Sembawang Archery Club Open 2007 was the first of the three events for our Archers. A total of five new archers (our first-year students) took part in the Sembawang Open. Despite their lack of experience in Archery competition, Muhammad Luqman Hakim Bin Senin and Lim Hui Ping won bronze medals for the Open Novice Individual Male and Female category respectively.

In the same competition's team category, RP's men team - Hakim, Khairil, and ZhenYuan - emerged top in the qualifying knock-out rounds. They went on to secure an overall 2^nd place in the finals! They were merely 7 points behind the champions.

Sixteen RP Archers took part in the AAS Outdoor Archery Championship 2007. This was the first time our archers were required to shoot in a combination of 50m and 30m ranges. Even in poor weather conditions, our Archers fought on to produce another set of good results.

Applause to RP Archer, Winnie Khoo Choon Mei, who won a gold medal in the Individual Women event! Archer Roziana Bte Abdul Rahim took part in the Individual Women event and performed well to seal the 4^th position in that event.

Winnie, Koh Peck Leng and Yee Wan Ting also competed in the Female Team category. They were one of the top 8 qualifying teams and they eventually emerged an overall 2^nd. RP’s other female team - Angelynn Tan Wei Ting, Heng Hwee Min, and Roziana Bte Abdul Rahim - managed to secure a spot in the top 8 teams to qualify for the team event. They were, however, unranked in the finals.

Not to be outdone, RP’s male Archers did well too. Khairil Nazir B Salim won a bronze medal in the Individual Men Novice category and Wong Wei Yang managed to secure 4^th position for the Individual Men event. The male team - Low Yuhong, Lim Li Rong, and Wong Wei Yang - also secured a place in the highly-competitive Male Team event.

The third competition was held recently at NTU on 3^rd February. This event saw some fierce competition from all participating tertiary institutions. Winnie Khoo Choon Mei did RP proud and proved her talent again by clinching a gold medal in the Individual Women event!

Winnie Khoo, Koh Peck Leng, and Rioziana Bte Abdul Rahim, led RP Archer’s Women Team to qualify for the team knockout. After a nail-biting final round with some of the top-performing local institutions teams, our Archers Women Team eventually emerged 3^rd.

Our male archers performed well too. Low Yuhong came close to winning a medal by clinching 4^th place, loosing out narrowly to an archer from ITE West. RP Archers’ Male Team - Yuhong, Lim Li Rong, and Wong Wei Yang - also managed to qualify for a final spot in the Team Knockout event.

These competitions were indeed a very fruitful one for our RP Archers. Not only did they bring home 8 medals and shine for RP in the local sports scene, they were rewarded with a far more valuable harvest in terms of experience from these competitions. Our Archers will certainly use these experiences to improve their performance. They aim for more achievements in the future competitions.
