We are proud to announce
that Team Republic’s Bowling Team has won medals once again after the POL-ITE
Bowling Championships 2006. The team is beginning to
make an impression at the National Level’s bowling scene when they built on
their previous feat and finished second for the overall school category in the
2nd NTU Invitational Bowling Championships 2006.
The 2nd
NTU Invitational Bowling Championships 2006 kicked off with the Trios
Event where our Bowling Team got off to a bright start
by clinching the 2nd runner-up's spot in the Ladies trios event with a total pin
fall of 1899 and an individual high game by
Teo Ai Ling with a score of 223.
On the second
day, the fire in our eyes grew stronger and we were ready for the next battle.
Starting with the Singles event, our Year One bowler,
Anthony Chang
topped the Men’s Singles category with a total pin fall of 795. On the other
end, it was the experienced and steady
Shayna Ng
who emerged as the champion in the Ladies Singles on a 4-game total of 796 and
she followed it up by winning the individual high game for this event with a
score of 222.
Up next was
the Doubles Event, where there was more good news to come from this young
Bowling Team. This time,
Shayna Ng
and
Teo Ai Ling
combined and clinched third place in the Ladies Doubles with a total pin fall of
1429. Shayna Ng once again impressed with an individual high game score of 265.
In the Men’s Doubles event, our team fought well and
Toh Yong Lee
posted an impressive individual high game of 266.
With such an
impressive haul of medals, the team went into the Quartet Event held on the 3rd
day of the 2nd NTU Invitational
Bowling Championships with
a positive and winning attitude. The wave of medals for Team Republic continued
with a silver medal in the Ladies’ Quartet made up of
Angel Chan, Somsath Da, Teo Ai
Ling and
Shayna Ng
with a remarkable score of 2600 - just 16 pins shy of the gold medal. Scorching
the lanes with her great form, Shayna Ng claimed the individual
high game for this event too with a striking score of
234. In the Men’s Quartet consisting of Lim
Yong Wei, Victor Law, Toh Yong Lee and Samuel Tan,
Team Republic finished Second Runner-up with an impressive pin fall of 2993.
All Events
gold medalist,
Shayna Ng,
topped the women's field while
Toh Yong Lee
settled for 4th position in the Men’s All Events, only 2 pin shy of the Bronze
medal.
Indeed RP’s
bowling team has improved a lot and performed remarkably well in this year’s 2nd
NTU Invitational
Bowling Championships 2006. However, to the team, this
was more than just the achievement of the individuals or the Bowling IG. This
achievement signified the growing success of Team Republic, now carving a
niche for itself in the tertiary sporting scene.
Well Done Team Republic!
Accolades go out to Coach
James, Uncle Isaac, school mates and those who gave support to the team
throughout the course of the team’s medal pursuits.
Congratulations to the
winners!
