Young Aspirers Planning and Training Camp 2006

‘Kill Mediocrity, Innovate MAGIC’ - this summed up what the Young Aspirers (YA) Club hoped to achieve in its inaugural Planning and Training Camp (PTC).

YA Club entered a new phase in September 2006 when the newly formed YA Management Committee, consisting of leaders from the interest groups (IG) within YA Club. Together, YA club aspired to ignite the flame of team bonding and people development, through the introduction of this PTC, which they conceptualized and executed collectively.

50 participants were bought together from the 9 IGs, under the wing of YA, for this camp. The participants were divided randomly into 4 teams - Heart, Spade, Club and Diamond. Programmes and games were planned to work in line with the theme “Different Shapes, Different Colors, but 1 Team Together” which aimed to be a magical, memorable and ground breaking event.

One of the mottos during the camp was to learn hard and play hard. Learning objectives were met on the first day through the talks and sharing sessions presented by our very own YA’s advisors, Ms Christine Sun, Mr Ng Sua Keong and camp coach, Mr Victor Tan. The magic of marketing, leadership and social etiquette were unleashed and imparted to the students in unforgettable and engaging ways. The students initiated and experienced the process of corporate planning as each IG leader shared on what the IG has achieved over the past half a year and plans for the next half. The results spoke for itself as many students understood what other IGs are focusing on and the team was able to identify some common initiatives that YA as a club could venture forward collectively in the coming year.

Day One ended with ice breaking games. The games were not only fun and engaging, but they also succeeded in creating a strong bond within groups. All participants were brought closer through the team sharing and games.

On the second day, the students started the day with a visit to the NEWater centre and gained insights to the magical water recycling technology that put Singapore’s contribution to environmental conservation on the world map.

The climax of YA PTC was “YA Night”, held on the second night. Our Guest of Honour was the Director of Centre for Innovation and Enterprise, Mr Tan Huan Peow. He kicked off the night with an inspiring speech on “Passion in Entrepreneurship”. With that, each team showed their colors in teamwork, communication and acting skills as they presented meaningful skits which highlighted kinship, friendship, hardship and advancements in technology. Titled SMART theatre, the event was lighted with candid presenters, engaging actors, supportive artists, participative audiences and continuous bursts of laughter. Both judges, Mr Tan and Mr Ng were left with the challenge of selecting the best team, actor and actress of the night. The night ended on a high note when Victor, our camp coach, was treated to a surprise toss by the student leaders, after the YA toast of cheer.

The camp management committees are proud to see the bond created in each and everyone regardless of their differences and the development of the participants who have put in their utmost passion in making the camp a success. We would like to thank the advisors for their guidance and great support, the camp committee for their tenacity and commitment in making this PTC a success. Last but not least, we would also like to thank the photographers from Photo.Republic for their outstanding contribution in capturing our precious moments.
