The evening started on a
slow note as more than 200 graduates gradually arrived at Republic Polytechnic
Centre (RPC). Many exclamations and exchange of greetings could be heard as
graduates met up with old classmates and friends. Soon, the whole venue was
abuzz with busy chattering of former Republicans catching up with one another.
Not
a moment too soon, the program started proper with the Investiture ceremony of
the first Alumni Advisory Committee (AAC) of Club Republic and the opening of
the Heritage Room & Graduates’ Lounge. The ceremony was graced by Mr Sean Tay,
Director, Office of Student & Graduate Affairs (OSG). The simple but meaningful
ceremony marked the beginning of Club Republic, the Alumni Club for Republic
Polytechnic. The AAC, despite the daunting task ahead of them, are committed to
do their best to serve their fellow alumni in the best interests.
The event also marked the
launch of the Graduates Portal, an online portal for graduates to keep in touch
with RP. It has an online networking system and a resume generator, just to name
a few of the tools available, on top of constant updates of upcoming graduate
and school events.
Throughout the night, the
graduates were kept busy, amidst the chatting and catching up with each other,
with the preview of the Graduates’ Lounge. OSG staff Alex Sarsito, who was
playing host for the evening, soon unveiled an array of games and corresponding
prizes to be given out. It wasn’t long before he had the crowd eating out of his
hands as he cajoled them into dancing and even play-acting as 'trees'.
The event was wrapped up
with a Christmas gift exchange, with the biggest gift being the smiles on the
faces of the graduates as they left.
