The search is over. After a month
of auditions, online voting and the final showdown, we found Republic
Polytechnic’s first dance champions Style Methodz (group category) and Norazhar
(Individual category).

The judges and supporters agreed
that all the finalists were champions in their own right. It was a nail-biting
finish the competition was very close. This was reflected in the results as it
was only a few points which divided the separate placing.

Incidentally, Norazhar,
affectionately known as C.A. in the Hip Hop IG, won both categories. He thanked
his friends who supported him from the beginning.
“Winning the first RP dance
competition has been my greatest achievement. I choreographed the dance pieces
and it was tough. But I believe hard work pays off.”
Campus Arts Productions first
initiated and organized Dance Republic to spread the passion and love of dance
throughout campus. Response was overwhelming and we saw RP students grooving and
swinging to a variety of dance form, from hip-hop to contemporary, salsa and
jive to Indian.
The competition would not have
been possible without the critique and, at times, stinging criticism by the four
distinguished judges. They were Mike Thomas (Group Exercise manager of
California Fitness), Toby (California Fitness Hip Hop Instructor), Larry (Hip
Hop Champion) and Andy Kok, RP’s very own Simon Cowell.
Chief Judge Mike Thomas, who had
won international championships, was very impressed with the performances. “I
would really like to congratulate the students on what was a fantastic event. It
made me realise how much talent there is out there in Singapore.”
