SIT Students Emerge as Champions (Enterprise Category) in the Splash Awards 2006 - 3G Live! Competition

A team of SIT students from Republic Polytechnic took part in the Splash Awards 2006 – 3G Live! organised by the Singapore Computer Society (SCS).  The Prize Presentation Ceremony and Market Place was held at Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre on 30 Nov 2006.  Our students competed with other IHLs for the top prizes in the Consumer Application and Business/Enterprise categories.  They beat entries from NUS and the other polytechnics to place first in the Business/Enterprise category.

Splash Awards 2006 – 3G Live! is part of SCS’s annual Splash Award competition and it aims to generate greater awareness and excitement among students and the public about Infocomm.  With 3G emerging as the prevalent trend in the infocomm sector, SCS, in collaboration with the iDA and the ITE College Central, jointly organized this competition with the aim of driving 3G awareness, transfer of wireless competency from technology principles to the developers’ community, and the development of 3G solutions leading to commercialization and deployment.

The RP team comprising 3 second year students from SIT (Chen Deshun, Teo Yi Jin and Lee Youwei Marcus) and advised by SIT staff, Tan Wee Siong and Alfred Thet, had started preparing their business plan in July and developing the application in August 2006. They had spent close to 6 months developing and refining their project for this competition. The team – Securities Real-Time, had developed a financial securities application which offers access to stock data (on the mobile phone) at all times with technical and market analysis.

Judging for the competition was held on 9 November 2006 but the results were only released during the Prize Presentation Ceremony and Market Place on 30 November 2006.  The finalists had to showcase their product at the Market Place segment before the announcement of the winners.  The winning teams were also given the opportunity to present their projects to the audience after the prize presentation.  Our students definitely created an impact with their practical and enterprising application of 3G in a real world financial setting.

Congratulations to Deshun, Yi Jin and Marcus on the win!
