The Feeling of Connectedness - RP video project for Citizens Connect@Woodlands

It was an unexpected but
exciting invitation for us. Eugene and I were informed several days before the
launch of a special portal called Citizens Connect to help Woodlands residents
surf the net for information that they need from various agencies. It is a
special e-service for citizens to get information about their CPF account,
Medisave, HDB loan et cetera without having to travel to the agency in charge.
For many people, this would be a really convenient and less costly way of
getting the information that matters to them most. So naturally Eugene and I
accepted the task without question.
Our only wish was that we
had more time. We pictured the face of our facilitators when we showed them the
video that we put our names to. What we had to do was a video featuring
Woodlands grassroots leaders and residents from diverse backgrounds sharing
their thoughts of using technology to get the information that they need. As we
couldn’t film the ‘stars’ in the order of the story we were going to tell, it
took some time for us to figure out how not to spend too much time editing later
on. We then divided the work on refining the introduction, content and
conclusion in between our other student life activities. It wasn’t as great a
job as we both would have preferred it to be (for we thought we had a reputation
to live up to) but we were happy the video was finished before 25 Nov which was
the actual launch of the Citizens Connect programme.
The launch was memorable
because we never imagined that there would be so many references to how Republic
Polytechnic helped with the video and the launch. Actually, we felt a little
overwhelmed at the attention. Neither of us had ever received such as a
beautiful momento from a VVIP and never thought the Guest of Honour would be the
MP Ms Ellen Lee herself! It was a humbling moment for us when we received our
tokens of appreciation and the warmth of those who were present at the launch
would remain in our memories for a long time to come. Eugene and I wonder if we
would have another chance with a follow up to the first video when residents
become really IT savvy…
