Home of the Republic Scores!

Home of the Republic scored big time with the Republic’s Contenders as they united for the first ever Ultimate Team Republic Challenge. All decked in yellow, the Contenders brought in the sunshine on 17th November to brighten up RP’s very own Sports Hall with their sparkling smiles and enthusiasm. This was a testament to the anticipation for an adventure which these hungry enthusiasts had been waiting for since the opening of the Sports Hall last month. This Ultimate Team Republic Challenge 2006 did not disappoint as the Contenders feasted on a wide array of sports challenges ready for the tasting - all of which were initiated by Team Republic’s very own Sports and Adventure IGs. And how the Contenders lapped it all up!

The adventure started off from the Forum at the Agora, where the Contenders raced their way to the Sports Hall from various routes, specifically gunning for the pool – a time to get wet and wild. Some took the route less traveled by using the road outside leading to the Sports Hall, while others went through the W2, W3 buildings and through the overhead bridge to get there. It was still just cheers all the way through as staff and students gamely plunged into the pool - probably a first for many of them. The pool was their first stop, after which the teams had to strategize their way through the different sports challenges.

The name of the game was for the teams of 4 to rampage through as many stations within 2 hours and earn as many points as possible from them. The Challenges initiated by the Challenge Masters ranged from the wet and outrageous, to the simple yet exciting. Fundamentally, this is what was unique about the Ultimate Team Republic Challenge - it presented an opportunity for the participating Contenders to have a quick taste of what the different sports in RP are about. Archery, Kayaking, Soccer, Volleyball, Rock Climbing, Diving, Life Saving, Bowling, Cricket, Floorball, Basketball, Rugby, Badminton – you name it, and the sport was there to be experienced.

This was also a chance for students to interact with their facilitators outside the classroom - both as fellow Contenders and opposition. There were no surprises then as it was a mixture of all-staff and mixed staff-students team who won the titles of the Group Champions:

Congratulations to all the winning Contenders! Judging by the feeling of satisfaction experienced by the Republic’s Contenders at the end of the Challenge, it is clear that it was the Home of the Republic which came out tops, for this is where the Contenders experienced RP’s Sports Hall the different way - a home which Team Republic is proud to call their own.
