Team Republic's Bowling IG Strikes Back

It is with pride and joy to announce that our RP Bowling Team has won medals in this year’s POL-ITE Bowling Championships 2006, - a first in the Interest Group’s (IG) history since its conception! They'll be aiming to better their performance, and win more medals, in years to come.

This year, the competition differs from those in past years in that both the Doubles & Team Events were played in one day instead of the usual two-day format. This meant that there was more stress and strain, both mentally and physically, for our fairly inexperienced Bowling Team to overcome. Armed with a winning attitude, it was a challenge our bowlers definitely relished.

The day started off early with the Doubles Event. The team went into the competition knowing what their potential would bring if maximized. It was heartache for Shayna Ng and Angel Chan who were just 30 pins away from clinching the third place. However, the men's team certainly showed their mettle for this one. The weather may have been gloomy that morning, but at SAFRA Yishun, our very own Lim Yong Wei and Khong Ming Hao brought in the sunshine for Team Republic by clinching second place with an amazing total pin fall of 1515. They were just 8 pins away from clinching the gold medal.

In the Team Event category, fatigue was getting to the team. The bowlers truly exhausted themselves during the Doubles’ event. The different lane conditions now made it all the more challenging for them. During last year’s POL-ITE competition, the female team narrowly missed out on third place. Determined not to allow history to repeat itself, our team of female bowlers, Somsath Da, Angel Chan, Teo Ai Ling and Shayna Ng, went into battle mode. With their goal for a medal in sight, coupled with a ‘It’s not over till the game is over!’ attitude, they bowled their hearts out and clinched a well-earned third place, with a total pin fall of 2637.

1 Bronze and 1 Silver – history was made. Accolades go out to Coach James, Uncle Isaac, school mates and those who gave support to the team throughout the course of the team’s medal pursuits.

To the team, this was more than just the achievement of the individuals or the Bowling IG. This achievement signified the growing success of Team Republic, now carving a niche for itself in the tertiary sporting scene.

Well done Team!

Do extend your congratulations to your Bowling classmates if you see them.

Silver (Men's Doubles) - Khong Ming Hao (SEG) and Lim Yong Wei (SAS)

Bronze (Women's Team) - Somsath Da (SIT), Angel Chan (SIT), Teo Ai Ling (SAS) and Shayna Ng (SHL)
