Woodlands Zone 3 RC Open House 2006

On 12 November 2006, Sunday, the Woodlands Zone 3 Resident Committee (RC) organized their annual Open House where residents were invited to partake in the many fun-filled activities lined up for them. The aim of the event was to allow residents to mingle with their neighbours as well as the grassroots leaders. This objective was definitely achieved as the ticket sales exceeded expectations and the organisers managed to sell more than 500 tickets.

That morning’s activities began with a children’s colouring competition which saw many eager participants wielding colour pencils and crayons. The Early Birds’ Draw managed to pull in a decent crowd and they were duly entertained by the adrenalin pumping break dancing, hip hop and the karaoke singing performances. Children had the best deal out of the event as there were free balloons, free ice cream, games stalls and even a magic show performed by a professional clown.

When the Guest Of Honour - Ms Ellen Lee, Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC arrived to grace the occasion, she was warmly welcomed by the residents. She gave a speech in both English and Mandarin as she emphasized the importance of the RC in the neighbourhood. One could easily see that Ms Lee was highly regarded by the residents as many came forward to shake her hands and converse with her.

The students from the Intellectual Games Interest Group were fortunate to have been a part of this event as a form of community outreach. They manned the Republic Polytechnic (RP) booth where they conducted simple games to challenge the minds of the players. Judging from the large number of adults and children keen on trying out these unique games, the booth was definitely a success! Many of the residents even queried about where the games could be bought.

Once again, this had been another happy occasion where RP was able to help out in a community event organised by our friendly neighbour. We do look forward to further opportunities where the 2 agencies can collaborate on future events!
