A Well Deserved Gold for Team Republic Basketball (F)

Republic Polytechnic women's basketball team displayed skill and determination to be crowned the Champion of POL-ITE Basketball Championships 2006/2007.  They won RP's first gold medal of the games and did the school proud!  Team RP won by a comfortable margin of 25 points, beating NYP with a convincing score line of 75 - 50 at the Singapore Basketball Centre.  With this decisive win, our women's team remained unbeaten in all 6 matches against all the polytechnics and combined ITE teams.

Led by National Team players, Zhao Jing (SHL) and Juliana Ang (SAS), who each scored 15 points, our women’s team surged to a 10-point lead against NYP and never relinquished it. It was definitely a night worth remembering as our perimeter shots were very precise and accurate. Cheered on by a resounding crowd of Team Republic supporters, our team was accurate in offence, strong in defence and rapid in transition.

In another exciting match, the RP men’s basketball team played against the NYP men’s team.  The RP men's team had beaten them by 1 point in the qualifying rounds, and this proved to be another tight match. Both teams were vying for the 3rd place finish in the men’s category. The game was closely fought throughout the entire regulation period and the score line score line was very close, both teams matched each other point for point and shot for shot. Eventually, it was our opponents who edged out the RP team with their outstanding rebound techniques and won the match by 5 points to clinch the bronze medal.

From zero to hero, the RP basketball team has made tremendous improvement in the standings among the polytechnics and ITE. Our students were also talent scouted by local basketball clubs, with their endorsement, we can only get stronger.
