POL-ITE Games 2006: RP Basketball (Female) Team an Inch from the Gold Medal

The RP Basketball Girls' Team has shown amazing game play and fantastic results so far in the POL-ITE Championships to earn a well-deserved place in the finals on 18th Oct 2006 (Wednesday) at the Singapore Basketball Centre.

The RP team, captained by Ong Pei Lin Sequenna, managed to win all their matches during the preliminary rounds against SP, NP, TP, NYP and ITE. National Team players, Zhao Jing (15) and Juliana (5) also made significant contributions to the wins. While the first three matches in the preliminary rounds were relatively easy wins for our girls, the last two matches were a much tougher and closer fought affair.

Former IVP runner-ups NYP and strong players from ITE demanded no less than iron will and determination from our players to maintain their good placing. Even though our girls trailed NYP and ITE in the standings after the first few preliminary rounds, they certainly showed everyone that the RP basketball girls could still play well under stress and constraints. In both matches, the RP basketball girls stood firm and fought their way through tough players and narrow score lines to secure their place in the finals. Indeed, it was their team fighting spirit and the support from the RP audience that helped them to qualify.

Congratulations to the RP Basketball girls on their victories, and together we shall root for them during the finals. Let the RP spirit once again shine, as our Basketball girls aim to score the final victory for Team Republic – the coveted POL-ITE Basketball Gold Medal.

They will need your support on 18 Oct 2006 (Wednesday) at the Singapore Basketball Centre. Buses will be catered for supporters, and will leave at 4.30p.m. from the RP Sports Hall. See you there!
