The excitement started to build up when
people dressed in Hawaiian garb, flower garlands and wristbands were sighted as
early as 3pm on a Friday afternoon (28 July 2006) at our Woodlands campus.
Students whispered amongst their midst, and their eyes roved from one “Hawaiian”
to another, and yet another, who hurried from their offices to W2.
By 5pm, the 400-seater LT at W2 was filled
with RP staff who came dressed in their Hawaiian best, ready to celebrate RP’s
4th anniversary together for the 1st time in our new Woodlands campus, and party
the evening away! The celebrations commenced with an opening address by our
Principal, Prof Low, who was himself dressed for the occasion. A video
showcasing RP’s achievements and major events was shown to all RP staff, and it
was then that everyone knew that all their hard work over the past year had not
been in vain. We are proud of what we have achieved, and we are also glad that
our transition period is over, and we have finally settled into our new and
permanent home in Woodlands.
As with past years, we gave credit to staff
who have performed exceedingly well in their various areas at the Awards
Presentation Ceremony. The awards given out this year included, amongst others,
Top Suggestor of the Year; Best Service Department of the Year
(Academic/Corporate); Outstanding Facilitator, and Outstanding Mentor/ Student
Life Activity (SLA) Advisor Awards. Also this year, staff and departments who
had contributed significantly in writing articles for the RP website were also
credited for their efforts.
This year, having moved to our spanking new
campus at Woodlands, the organizing committee decided to have a theme party at
our own premises. We decided to go Hawaiian, and thought our new lawn area with
its carpeted grass and lush surroundings was the most ideal location for our
Hawaiian-themed alfresco party. We completed the look and feel with tikki lamps
lined along our timber-decked walkway, casual seating under the stars, great
music and entertainment, a sumptuous seafood feast, and of course, ourselves
adorned in true Hawaiian gear! We did feel like we were partying in Hawaii – all
we needed was a beach and the sea perhaps!
