On 3 March 2006, Republic
Polytechnic (RP) bade farewell to Tanglin campus, our temporary home for the
past 3 years, with a simple but heart-warming ceremony. It all started with the
Flag Lowering Ceremony in the evening before 6pm. Staff and students gathered
near the flagpoles in Tanglin Campus to observe the state and school flags lowered for the last time at this premises.
The flags were subsequently
presented to RP’s representative by our Guest-Of Honor, Ms. Indranee
Rajah, MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC at the Farewell Ceremony which commenced at
6.30pm. The representatives would then bear the RP flag all the way from Tanglin
Campus to the new Woodlands Campus on their bicycles, and finally plant it in
our Woodlands campus on 4 March 2006. The Flag Lowering Ceremony was a quiet
little affair which touched the hearts of many who witnessed this historic
moment in RP’s history.
Just before the sky began to
darken, our Guest-of-Honor, Ms Rajah, arrived. She was welcomed by RP’s
Principal & CEO, Professor Low Teck Seng, and RP’s very own Lion Dance Troupe.
Upon arrival, Ms Rajah was ushered down RP’s memory lane in the form of a
little photo gallery staged at the foyer entrance. The photo gallery featured
the milestones of RP, and more significantly, those which took place at Tanglin
Campus itself. The little walk down RP’s memory lane certainly brought back fond
memories of us in Tanglin Campus.
