Our first building at the new
campus in Woodlands is officially open. The Republic Polytechnic Centre is the
first block to be completed in our sprawling new campus. Upon completion in
2006, our campus will boast state-of-the-art facilities which will not only
accommodate our staff and students, but also benefit the community in Woodlands.
The day’s events featured performances by various student IGs, namely the RP
Lion Dance Troupe, RP String Ensemble and the RP Wind Symphony. Republic
Polytechnic staff were also in attendance to give the Guest-of-Honour, Mr.
Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education, a rousing welcome.
After the opening address
by Professor Low and a speech by Mr. Shanmugaratnam, the Minister was invited to
officially open the RP Centre. This the Minister did by tapping a specially
designed Ez-link card on a card scanner, and everyone looked on as the huge
board on the stage unveiled the plaque underneath, marking the opening of
Republic Polytechnic’s main administrative building.
