CIE-Youth Entrepreneurship Conference 2008 – “Inspiring a New Generation of Youth Entrepreneurs”

Organized by the Centre for Innovation & Enterprise (CIE), the inaugural Youth Entrepreneurship Conference was held on 5th September 2008.  It attracted educators from more than 30 schools in Singapore.

CIE-Entrepreneurship Talks 2008: Come, Learn and Earn!

A series of lunch-time talks on entrepreneurship development took place from 15th to 18th July 2008.  The objective was to promote entrepreneurship and to provide inspiration to students on entrepreneurship.

CIE-InVogue IG Events

InVogue IG organized 2 events recently; the first that was open to all RP students and staff, and the second exclusively for its members.  The first event was talk presented by Shelly Centre of Higher Learning to RP on how to dress appropriately for a person’s body shape.  The second was a make-over photo shoot, a joint collaboration between InVogue IG and Photo IG.

CIE-Bazaar IG Events

Bazaar IG had organized a 2-day “Vintage of the Eighties” pushcart sales for students to have the opportunities to source for suitable merchandise and be creative in pushcart decorations to reflect the theme for the event.

Another event was organised by the IG on lunch-time talk about the facts and myths about franchising. The talk received overwhelming response and more than 400 students and staff came to learn more.

On July 22nd 2008, Business Climate IG organized “Business Etiquette Talk” and the response was overwhelming such that seats were filled up very quickly.

SOH-School Advisory Committee Formed

Eleven successful industry and academic personnel have been invited to join our School Advisory Committee (SAC) to render their advice and expertise towards the operation of the School of Hospitality (In collaboration with Raffles Hotels & Resorts).  Dr. Richard C Helfer, the newly appointed Chairman chaired the SAC Inaugural Meeting on 11 September 1008.

Revised Hotel Frontage

SOH-What’s Happening At Campus Heights?

The construction works for the Raffles Hospitality Centre kicked off on 17 September 2008.  This project, termed The Training Hotel of SOH, has been awarded to Boon Guan Construction Pte. Ltd. and will take 130 days to complete. When completed, it will house a lobby with check-in check-out and reception work areas, a guestroom complete with restroom, a training restaurant, a training kitchen and Spa labs.  Start counting the days!

SOH–A Saturday with the Parents

On 2 August 2008, a Meet the Parents Session was organized by SOH for the parents of all their first year students.  Industry speakers Ms. Melissa Ow of Singapore Tourism Board, Ms. Louise Chua of Reed Exhibitions, Mr. Terence Tan of Raffles Hotel and Mr. Jason Ng of SCORE were invited to share with the 180 parents and students present.

SOH–1st Batch of Certified Service Professionals (CSP) Graduates

The first batch of 34 adult students who went through a rigorous five-day boot-camp style service training from 21st to 25th July 2008, to experience first-hand the challenges and rewards of being service professionals graduated from the CSP Programme in RP.  Read more about the course being offered.

SOH-DCRSM Industry Speaker Series – Service Delivery

DCRSM started its very first series of Service Talks with an industry stalwart from the renowned Tung Lok Group of Restaurants.  Mr. Woody Achuthan, the Vice President of Operations, Training and Customer Service from the Group who delivered the talk, created a memorable impact on the 150 students present.

SOH–DHHM Industry Speaker Series – Introduction to the Hotel Industry

A 4-member team led by the Director of Human Resources, Mr. Peter Tan of Hilton Singapore was invited to share their insights and interesting experiences of the hotel industry with the students on 30th July 2008.  It was a very lively and highly interactive session from which the enthusiastic students benefitted greatly.

SOH–Jivers In Action for Yellow Ribbon Sports Carnival 2008

This is the 2nd year running that JIVE IG has co-organized this event.  The Yellow Ribbon Sports Carnival is an annual sport carnival for residents of halfway houses to promote healthy lifestyle among the ex-offenders.   Read about our JIVERS in action.

SOH–Support  for  AHF Cup Tournament at Delta Stadium

JIVE IG was tasked with the operations and logistics of this qualifier event for the Hockey World Cup in 2010.  Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Finance and Education was the Guest-Of-Honour invited to the finals held on 22nd June 2008.

SOH–JIVE IG Students Participated in Large-Scale Community Event of the Year

It was a special event to remember for 35 JIVE IG students who brought fun and joy to 2,000 guests at the National Day Dinner at Canberra CC.  The event was graced by the Minister of Health, Dr. Khaw Boon Wan.  The organizers were all praises for these DIEM students who contributed to the event’s success.

SOH–The Birth of Hotel F.U.Z.E.  IG

What an appropriate name  Fun – Unique – Zestful – Engaging for a hospitality-enhancement IG launched by the DHHM team on 4 July 2008 to immerse student members’ knowledge in the hospitality industry by experiential learning outside the classroom, engaging them in the processes and exposing them to the reality of industry demands.  Read more on their activities in the pipeline.
