Team Republic bagged a whooping total of 25 medals at the 11th NUS Invitational Lifesaving Championships, and even set a new meet record. In addition, for the very first time, they were crowned the Champion school for the ‘B’ Division Category!
The
Republic Polytechnic (RP) Lifesaving Team has been training very hard months
before the competition. Although they faced a lot of obstacles along the way,
they managed to keep to a high level of fitness and mental strength by training
on full gear whenever they could. The many late night trainings, late dinners
and lack of sleep were worth it as many of them not only did their personal best
at the competition; they also had medals in tow!

This was their most successful competition since the existence of the RP Aquatic (Lifesaving) IG,
which started 5 years ago. Not forgetting to mention that it was definitely a very memorable one, for they had many surprise wins. Even the commentators could not help but praise RP for such an outburst of glory this year. It was indeed a precious taste of success for the RP Lifesaving alumni who have toiled for the very existence of Aquatic (Lifesaving) IG for so many years.
The final result for the competition? Our girls came in Overall 2nd and our guys came in Overall 3rd for the 11th NUS Invitational Lifesaving Championships. The best part was RP emerged as Champions for the ‘B’ Division category!
The team would like give special thanks to their coach, Jeremy Tan, for preparing them for the competition. Not forgetting to mention Aquatic IG’s advisors, Mr Gary Su and Mr Jeremy Wu for their unwavering support for the team. Also, they would like to thank RP for making this competition possible for them. Last but not least, a very big thank you to the non-competitors who were there to show their support. It really meant a lot for sportsmen to have strong supporters with them through all the nail-biting moments.
It was a great job done by everyone, but we will definitely not get complacent. We shall continue training hard and give the crowd another round of jaw-dropping surprises at the next Lifesaving Competition. Keep up the excellent work!
