“Best Performer" Fitness Award for Republic Polytechnic

Republic Polytechnic (RP) continuous effort to promote healthy lifestyle and fitness returns promising results. The polytechnic was awarded the MINDEF Physical Fitness Performance Award (MPFPA) “Best Performer Award” 2009.

The latest recognition comes from its on-going fitness program set up in 2009 to strengthen final year students’ fitness, especially male Singaporean students who will enlist into National Service (NS). RP has put in place a fitness program to prepare students to be physically fit for NAPFA (National Physical Fitness Award Scheme) test and NS.

The 13-week program focuses on students’ cardio endurance and strength conditioning. The program also includes workshops to provide students with a better understanding of National Service and the implications of the physical conditioning.

Besides the structured program, RP holds regular campus-wide programs to encourage all her students and staff to participate in physical and wellness activities such as Campus Relay, Learn to Play and RP Biathlon.

Receiving the MPFPA “Best Performer Award” 2009 award is a recognition of RP’s commitment and high standard of physical fitness achieved by RP students with respect to the NAPFA passing percentage – this refers to those achieving a Silver or Gold medal – of final-year, NS-eligible male students.

RP has also been awarded the “Merit Award” in 2007 and the “Most Improved Award” in 2008 by MPFPA.
