This year’s Inter-Varsity Swimming Championships was held at the Singapore Sports School for the very first time on 31st October and 1st November.
It was a memorable event where the indoor environment with icy cold water was something everyone had to get used to. Not to mention that the results released instantaneously upon touching the finishing wall was also an eye opener to us.
It was a fruitful event and we are glad to announce that Republic Polytechnic (RP) bagged 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 team bronze medals!
The events are as follows:
Women
50m Backstroke – Cassandra Chua Wan Yi (Gold)
50m Butterfly – Cassandra Cha Wan Yi (Silver)
100m Butterfly – Lek Hui Hiang (Silver)
4x100m Medley Relay – Cassandra Chua Wan Yi, Lek Hui Hiang, Kasmiranti Bte Kasim, Neo Wen Chi Rachelle (Bronze)
Men
50m Breastroke – Julien Lim (Silver)
For the 4 x 50m Female Medley Relay, Team Republic missed out on the medal position by a split second. However, by a stroke of luck, an announcement was made that the team in the 2nd place got disqualified, making Team Republic the Bronze medallists.
Team Republic exploded into bursts of ecstasy. We got third place! To us, it was a huge achievement as we were up against other institutions which had the advantage of having a couple of national swimmers in their teams.
Stepping onto the pedestal and receiving the medal together with our teammates was definitely a priceless experience.
Overall, it was a rewarding experience as everyone had fun even as they did their best. In addition, new personal records were made. It was definitely a sweet taste of success after months of long and arduous trainings.
We would like to express special thanks to our coach Mr. Jeremy Tan, our advisor Mr Gary Su, our facilitator-in-charge Mr Jeremy Wu, and members of Republic Polytechnic for their support.
It was indeed a job well done by all participants, including our supporters.
We will keep up the fighting spirit and work even harder for next year’s
Championships and bring more glory to Republic Polytechnic!
