The POL-ITE Bowling Championships was held on the 24th of October 2009 at Safra Tampines. Two teams of Male and Female bowlers were selected to represent Republic Polytechnic (RP) and they have done everyone proud by clinching medals home again this year.
The competition was split into 3 categories, namely the Singles, Doubles and the Team event. There were a total of 8 games which were separated into 2 blocks of 4 games. The 1st block of games was the doubles event, which was held in the morning, followed by the 2nd block that was held after the lunch break.
At the beginning of the day during the doubles event, things went well for RP’s women pair, Fok Ka Wai and Clara Lim. In the 2nd game, Clara Lim scored a high game of 252 pinfall, widening their lead which the pair had built in the 1st game. The pair remained strong throughout the next 2 games, clinching the first place with a total pinfall of 1502, 121 pins ahead of the 2nd place.
In the 2nd block of the game, which was the Team event, the whole of Team RP went in with high spirits. The women Team 1, consisting of Clara Lim, Fok Ka Wai, Eileen Lim and Sophia Ang, put in their best effort and showed everyone what they are capable of by placing 1st with a total pinfall of 2852, leading the 2nd placing team from Temasek Polytechnic with 166 pins. In the last game, Eileen Lim bowled a game of 231 pinfall, which was the highest game of the Women Team Event. Womens Team 2, consisting of Lee Jia Ling, Nur Syazwani, Samantha Alexis and Sarah See, fought all the way but fell short of 3rd place, ending in the 4th place, just behind the 3rd placing by a mere 7 pinfall.

Results for the Singles Event were tabulated after all the 8 games from the doubles and team events. In the Women Singles, Clara Lim came in 1st place with a total pinfall of 1550, leading 104 pins from the 2nd place, with a high average of 193.8 pins. Her 252 pinfall high game during the doubles event was also the overall high game for the women category. Fok Ka Wai came in 3rd, missing the 2nd placing by 8 pins to Temasek Polytechnic’s Mitchelle Elaine.
In the Mens division, our bowlers faced a strong competition from the other polytechnics. It was not a good day for the guys as things did not meet up to their expectations. Nonetheless, our bowlers gave their best shot as well as a good fight to their competitors and came in 5th and 6th position for the team event. All in all, this tournament was a good learning experience for the whole team, and we will learn from this experience and continue to work hard for future tournaments.
Last but not least, RP’s Bowling IG defended their women’s title, clinching 1st place in the overall women’s division, and 3rd place for the overall men’s division. Republic Polytechnic came in 2nd position in the Overall Championship, right behind Temasek Polytechnic.
Well done Team!
