Imagine immersing yourself in a pool of cool, fresh water or participating in
team activities like dragon boating and improvised rafting within the Ubin
quarry. This is your new classroom in the outdoors under the Adventure Learning
Centre.
9th October 2009 saw the official launch of the Republic Polytechnic
Experiential Learning Centre@Ubin (RPELC@Ubin) where the event was graced by Mr
Richard Seow, Chairman, Board of Governors, Mr Yeo Li Pheow, Principal/CEO,
strategic partners and RP Directors.
Guests were welcomed to the newly acquired premise under the wing of the
Republic Polytechnic Adventure Learning Centre, where water and land based
activities can be conducted at the facility. The respective IG members were also
on-site to showcase activities like dragon boating, improvised rafting,
kayaking, confidence jump, tent pitching and field cooking.
The Centre measures about 24 soccer fields, took the team about 6 months to
setup from ground zero. The extension of the existing centre which comprises of
the indoor and outdoor rock climbing walls, 18m abseiling walls, high ropes
courses, maze system and water-based facilities, now gives students a wider
range of facility using experiential learning in the outdoor context. The
$20,000 setup is equipped with dragon boats, expedition kayaks, improvised
rafting equipment and also boosts a basecamp, which is able to house mobile
expeditions for the various programmes under the ALC.
