On 27th June 2009, Team Republic Aquatic IG arrived at NUS in the sweltering
heat, all geared up for the inaugural 10th NUS Invitational Lifesaving Championships.
It was definitely a memorable day in the history of Lifesaving IG as we won
three medals. Here are the medallists:
Silver medallists: Line throw men’s 12m (Long Fei and Yong Kai)
Bronze medallists: Line throw women’s 12m (Jin and Christina)
Bronze medallists: 4x25m Manikin Relay (Jessamine, Peggy, Wei Si, Christina)
The hard work that our athletes have put in for the competition indeed contributed to the sweet success. As for the
rest of our athletes, although they did not win any medals, they have made all of us proud
by putting up a good fight, even posing a threat to other more experienced
competitors from other schools and clubs.
What we gained at the end of the day were not just medals and personal best times. It was also a day where we mingled with swimmers from other clubs. The competitors could be seen chatting and laughing with friends and congratulating winners from other clubs and schools, demonstrating amiable sportsmanship and sincere friendship. Juniors who were there to support them definitely learned many things that day and the events were also a real eye-opener for us.
We would like to say a big thank you to our coach Mr Jeremy Tan for his guidance, to our advisors Mr Gary Su and Mr Jeremy Wu for their support, and to the juniors who were there to cheer Team Republic on. It was a fantastic experience and
we will continue to give our best to Lifesaving IG for future competitions!
