2009 SIT graduates celebrate with ritzy ball
There were “paparazzi” snapping furiously when the new graduates of the School of Information Technology gathered at the Singapore Marriott Hotel to celebrate their ROD from Republic Polytechnic. And no wonder, the gala evening was themed “Hollywood Glamour”. Guests came dressed to the nines to party the night away, the boys in suits and the girls in shimmering, off-the-shoulder creations.
They had a red carpet welcome at the reception area, which was festooned with streamers and balloons to set the mood. Student volunteers and staff had spent hours painstakingly putting the decorations in place to make that February 26 event a stand-out night despite their limited budget.
The Graduation Ball was packed with entertainment, starting with the introduction of the nominees for Prom King and Prom Queen. Guests were asked to vote for their choice by SMS. Then the covers were whipped off an array of Western starters, main courses and desserts.
As the guests tucked into dinner, they enjoyed a special video produced by the Cypher Club and the School’s academic staff. The eight minute show with its simulated scenes of classroom facilitation and project evaluations had the audience chuckling away between mouthfuls.
During the evening, the graduates could also join in games, one of which required participants to mimic signature poses by gongfu stars Bruce Lee, Wong Fei Hong and Tony Jaa among others, as the rest of the crowd lustily cheered them on. In between the various activities, Cypher Club members were presented with gift vouchers in recognition of the work they put in organising RP events throughout the academic year.
There was also a lucky draw, with everyone waiting hopefully for his number to be drawn for prizes which included Popular Book store vouchers and high tea vouchers from the Marriott. The grand prize was a weekend stay at the hotel’s deluxe suite, The evening’s crowning event took place at 10pm, when Png Chin Teck and Wendy Lim were named Prom King and Prom Queen.
Guests took to the floor after that, boogieing the night away to R&B music provided by a DJ from Theme2 Productionz, and posing for pictures to remember the wonderful occasion.
We wish all SIT graduates all the very best in their new life ahead!
