Republic Polytechnic’s Wushu IG pugilists bring home a total of 42 medals at 7th Hong Kong International Wushu Festival 2009!
The RP Wushu Interest Group (IG) bagged a total of 20 Gold, 12 Silver and 10 Bronze medals at the recent 7th Hong Kong International Wushu Festival. RP was also awarded with an ‘Outstanding Group Award’ that comes with a cash prize of HK$1,000. What a triumphant win for our RP students!
The 7th Hong Kong International Wushu Festival was held from 6 – 10 March 2009 at the Hong Kong Ma-On-Shan Stadium. This year, there were more than 5,000 participants who took part in the event, making it one of the biggest Wushu competitions ever held in Hong Kong.
Compared to the 2008 competition, this year’s competition proved to be an eye-opener and a more fruitful learning platform for the RP Wushu IG as the students are able to witness the skills of other Wushu exponents from across the continents.
The RP Wushu team put up a tough fight and pit their skills against many international Wushu players. The atmosphere was tense and nerve-racking for everyone who was present at the stadium. Nevertheless, our RP Wushu team persevered and did a great job by winning these medals back home!

Accompanying the RP Wushu Team on this trip were friends from Wu-Fang (武坊), and they have also achieved excellent results by winning 6 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze medals.
The students recognized that without the fine guidance and devotion of their advisor, Dr Chang Teck Keng and Coaches, Xue Xing Fu and Chai Guo Hui, they would not be able to emerge as winners for the competition. The RP Wushu IG would also like to thank TRCC/Create for their continuous support as their group’s achievement today would not have been made possible without the department. The students were motivated to train even harder in order to bring glory to RP and push the IG to greater heights in the future. |
